Hi everyone, Im a mother of two. My son is 15 years and he is at 11 grade. I need assistance because I have the suspicious that my son is under the Autism umbrella. Any one knows where I can find a service where my son can be evaluate? I heard that the evaluation is expensive we are her for 4 years. Thanks to all.

Hi,
It would cost about $2,000 to $3,000 to get a thorough evaluation by a good psychologist. University of Miami and Miami children's Hospital ( Dan Marino Center) do this type of testing. My grandson was tested by a private psychologist that works with the Dan Marino Center. She was excellent. If you have insurance, they may pay. If you need or on public assistance from the government, they pay may pay, also.

The Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education and Human Services, for more info. call 1 800- 986-3223 ext. 8620. They offer Psychoeducational assesments and will charge the parent base on their income.

Also there is a Federal Law IDEA that gives the right to families to request a free and appropiate evaluation done through the Public Agency (Miami Dade Public Schools). The parent have to let the school the concerns and request this psychoeducational evaluation by writting. The process done though the Public Agency is free but longer. If you haven't done this and you need assistance in how this works you may want to call us at (305) 271-9797 to set up an appoitnment with one of our Education and Support Specialist. You can also register to our free trainings to learn more about it. The Public Agency won't give you a diagnosis but will find an eligibility for your child to receive services at the Public Agency.

Hi,
Nova is a great idea. I didn't know that they are income based. I called CARD at University of Miami for a friend of mine, who's son needs testing, and they told me that they don't have an income based test for Autism/Asperger's Syndrome. I was surprised, because it's so important that kids and adults get tested for Autism Spectrum Disorders. If people can only can get the tests paying full fare, then where do they go to get tested when they don't qualify for public assistance. A lot of insurances don't cover this type of testing. FYI In order to get tested for ASD you need to get an ADOS and an ADIR (the "gold standard") and answer some ASD specific questionaires along with the psychoeducational testing. I know that Nova does this. I'll have to tell my friend about Nova.

Hi,
If you have medical health Insurance; you can take him to see a Neurologist, the most important thing is too rule out the Autism first. If the diagnosis turns out to be Autism, you can proceede with the Psycho-educational eval. If you can do it privately, it will be more quick and perhaps more thorough. Take it one step at a time, you can call Parent to Parent of Miami and they can guide you through the entire process.

gracias . habia estado buscando este lugar don marino que me dijeron pero con poner eso en internet me daba cosas sobre la marina y hace 3 semanas q buscaba y ahora veo q tu post dice don marino center.. wow mil gracias ya llame y ahora ya me explicaron lo q debo hacer para poder hacer evaluar a mi hijo y q pueda recibir tratamiento me encanto la pagina lastima no hbalo ingles pero algo leyendo entiendo y me ayudo muchisimo.. mil gracias
