We'll be moving to Miami next summer and my son is to attend Kindergarten starting in august. He was born there and we had to move temporarily to Venezuela three years ago where he's been attending preschool ever since. He was initially diagnosed with ASD but currently his diagnosis thou not official has changed. Must specialist consider he has a speech delay and/or a PDD-NOS. He has received extensive therapies in Venezuela and is doing great in many areas, but still is going to need therapy when we go back and probably for the next few years. We are in the process of enrolling him in an elementary school but I'm having problems deciding what would be the best option for him. I would prefer the public school since they offer most of the therapies he would need, but the school he's supposed to attend is not well rated and we really didn't like many things when we visited it. Hence, we are leaning towards a private school, but are concerned about how he'll do there: will he receive the support he needs? is there any possibility to get the therapy services eventhough he won't be enrolled in the public school? I really don't know where to turn to get some information since I'm not even currently at Miami, but in Venezuela. Where should I go to get some help with all this issues? Appreciate any comments.
