Hi,
After reading the complaints about summer camp or summer school for children with Autism not being affordable or the day being offered as too short, I searched Miami-Dade-Public School's site for information on their programs and classes during the summer for children with Autism. Well here it is! I ask you if your child's IEP says your child needs to go to school, full time, year round, don't you think that theywould have set up a full time summer school program for him/her? Apparently they are telling parents that summer school is not available on a full time basis. If I am wrong, please correct me. It is Federal, State, and County law that if your child has something on the IEP the school board MUST provide it. I believe parents are being taken advantage of. You can bring your barf bag with you when you read this link:
These are their plans based on a budget that does not include local resources. Look at the eligibility criteria!:

Hello
Where in the IEP does it say about summer school? I gues it is the section at the very bottom of page 4 "Extended School Year(ESY)" I have always requested it at the meetings but they have always checked "no'. But then, I guess that a school that does not have a working copying machine and made me stop by 3 to 4 times before I could get a copy of the EIP the first year my son attended, would could not afford to stay open over the summer. What ever happened to going to Kinkos and Officemax or Office Depot for copies, is it against employees rights to leave the premises? Wait I forgot , it is the Union! By the way, all these times that I came by to pick up my copy, I had to park two blocks away. Sorry about the sarcasm but I have left names out.
