Resources for Parents and Caregivers of Children with Cerebral Palsy – with Q & A session

Dr. Monica Payares, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, will discuss how Nicklaus Children’s Hospital provides specialized care to children with neuromuscular and movement disorders, including cerebral palsy.

The doctor will provide parents an overview of the various programs and clinics for children with specialized needs, and how doctors and caregivers from multiple specialties work together to provide a plan of care for each individual child. The goal is to improve quality of life and outcomes, and foster an independent lifestyle for each and every patient.

Monica Payares-Lizano, MD is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon within the Orthopedic Surgery Program at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She also provides care as part of several Nicklaus Children’s multidisciplinary programs, including the Branchial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program, the Hemophilia Treatment Center, Neural-Tube Defect Clinic (spina bifida). Neuromuscular Program, and the Spasticity and Movement Disorders Clinic for children and teens affected by cerebral palsy. Her clinical interest include general orthopedics, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders and musculoskeletal trauma.
